NZPF Special Flyer – February 1 Charter Deadline - 9 December 2011
You have all received a letter from the Ministry of Education requesting that you submit your Charters to the Ministry by 1 February 2012. The NZPF executive has considered this request and we believe that the deadline of February 1st is likely to be an unrealistic target for most of you. A survey conducted by NZEI confirms this position.
2% thought the date was very realistic and they would easily meet it
5% thought it was realistic and they were likely to meet it
47% thought it was unrealistic and they were unlikely to meet it
46% thought it was very unrealistic and they would not meet it.
Most of you will not have met with your Boards of Trustees for your first 2012 meeting, nor will you have had the opportunity to consult with your local community on target setting by February 1st.
The Ministry has always conveyed to us that a Charter is a dynamic document which can be continuously modified during the year and initially submitted Charters can be seen as drafts.
Consequently, we would advise that you contact your regional Ministry of Education official to explain your position and ask if you may either send in a draft Charter initially or negotiate an alternative submission date that better suits your school, your Board of Trustees and your community. A number of principals have already taken this path and have successfully negotiated an alternative date.
